Data tape for backup is better option than Disk

The data density throughout the world has been increasing by leaps and bounds, therefore; firms have become concerned about their big data and its backup needs. Though data tape for backup of larger sets of data is considered lucrative option but despite of the capacity advantage there are people who prefer disk based storage over data tapes. Data tape has certain top advantages over disk.

Data Tape for Backup is Better

Let’s review why data tape for backup is still a better option in order to further deep dive into the topic at hand. Red Wire founder Nick Web states the reasons why data tape backup is still better than disk as well as cloud backup. Firstly you should know why people in the first place think of using disks as a storage options. It is due to the advantages associated with disks which include;

  • Quick and easy restores of data
  • Physical system access is not required to swap media
  • Easily handles multiple backups
  • Easy recovery of data
  • Provides random access to data

On the contrary, if we look at the advantages of data tapes then we can easily say that tapes are still a better option for data backups than the disks.

  • Speed per tape backup drive is very high especially after the arrival of LTO’s latest generations
  • Tapes tend to be more reliable
  • Tape provides longer media life in comparison to disks
  • Relatively cost effective
  • Easy to transport off site
  • Consumes lesser power

Tape which is available today is much more advanced than the one available 60 years ago. The capacity has incredibly improved and so as the transfer rate of data. Though disks and cloud can provide you backups of your data but as your amount of data start to rev up substantially and turn up into a big data then tape drives would definitely hold a better support from the disk proponents. When it comes to cloud then in case of big data even cloud becomes an expensive option for companies who might be paying $1000 for storage of 1tb data online each month. So after having analyzed the stance of Nick Webb, it is convincingly said that data tape for backup is definitely a viable option for companies dealing with big data.
If your company is the one trying to manage its big data then after having gone through the review, you must know by now that data tape drives are the right option for you which you can find at ODSI.

  1. I was curious if you ever thought of changing the layout of your site?

Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way
of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?
